Hi, I’m Andrew McAlister, I’m the director of AcademicComputing and Innovation at OCAD University And if this is your first time to OCAD University welcome, and if you’re returning student welcome back. It’s springtime in Toronto and it’s a beautiful sunny day here in March and we want to tell you a little bit about how the laptop program works. OCAD University is the most amazing place to be creative, and we are here to support your creativity with technology. If you’re coming to OCAD University in September You’re gonna need to bring a laptop. Either, that’s a laptop you already own, or a laptop that you’re going to purchase in the late summer. We license software for you at a discount, and then you pay fees for software and support. We’re currently evaluating laptops for next year, so we recommend you check our website for details. You don’t need to purchase anything right now, wait until the late summer and new models and discounts and back-to-school specials will be available, We currently support Dell, Apple and Microsoft laptops, But if you’re in a program area that requires software that only runs under windows we strongly recommend that you look at purchasing a Windows PC laptop. We do support Apple Bootcamp on the Mac But you do need a laptop that has at least a 256 gigabyte SSD so that we can install Windows on it. Consult our website and check and see what program you’re in because the laptop models do differ per program area. When it comes time you can purchase the computer anywhere you want, but there are some recommended locations that we’ve worked out with the manufacturers where you can get the best possible deal. If you don’t have one of our recommended laptops, just make sure your laptop meets the minimum requirements that you find on our website. The reason we support specific laptops in the program is so that they can all run software like the Adobe Creative Cloud And that we can support them. We’re also an Apple authorized service provider so that if your Apple computer breaks under warranty you can bring it to us We can fix it, and you can also borrow computer while your computer is being repaired. If you do have any questions please do consult our website at ocadu.ca/itsupport or you can phone us or you can email us directly. Hope you have the most amazing creative year at OCAD University and especially be creative with your technology.
